If you're looking for an extraordinary dining experience this winter, Winterlust at H Tasting Lounge is the perfect choice. Set on the scenic patio of the Westin Bayshore Hotel, this annual dome dining event offers a mix of luxury, exclusivity, and winter magic. We went at the tail end of last year's season and celebrated Valentine's Day in here. Winterlust at H Tasting Lounge is available for reservations from November to February. You get the festive and romantic decoration, snow in Vancouver, and a cozy atmosphere. While it’s undoubtedly a feast for the senses, the hefty price tag makes it a treat best reserved for special occasions.

THE PIG PEN

The atmosphere at Winterlust is nothing short of enchanting. Picture yourself dining in a private dome outfitted with cozy pillows, blankets, and stunning seasonal decor that immediately sets the holiday mood. Each dome can seat up to six people and offers control over the temperature and music, ensuring a personalized and comfortable experience for every guest.

The location adds to the charm, with breathtaking waterfront views that feel both romantic and serene. On select evenings, the venue even operates a snow machine, delivering a whimsical snowfall effect that perfectly complements the winter theme.

Whether it’s for an intimate date night or a small gathering with friends, the ambiance is unmatched. It’s elegant without being overly formal, and the warm, intimate setting makes it feel like you’ve stepped into a holiday postcard. This is truly where H Tasting Lounge shines brightest, creating an unforgettable environment that leaves a lasting impression.

OINK-CREDIBLE BITES

The food at Winterlust lives up to its luxurious setting. For starters, we had the Calamari and a salad (tbh we went in February so I forgot which one we ordered LOL).

For dinner we also opted for West Coast Surf Platter, a seafood lover’s dream featuring Kombu-steamed Dungeness crab, prawns, local mussels, and Manila clams. Every element was fresh and beautifully prepared, delivering flavors that felt both refined and indulgent.

The star of the evening, however, was the Certified Angus Beef Tomahawk. This show-stopping dish is prepared tableside, adding an interactive element to the meal. The meat was tender and flavorful, complemented by a rich red wine peppercorn jus and truffle confit fingerling potatoes. The roasted heirloom carrots were a delightful addition, bringing an earthy sweetness to balance the dish.

Seasonal cocktails were another highlight, served in creative, Instagram-worthy glassware. Each drink had a unique flavor profile that paired well with the dishes, making the overall dining experience even more elevated. The Vietnamese coffee-inspired cocktail hit the spot or me. It comes with a little hammer and you can break the creme brulee on top to add sweetness to the bitter drink underneath.

While the taste and presentation were undeniably top-notch, we couldn’t help but feel that some of the dishes, though delicious, didn’t fully justify the steep prices. The flavours were rich and satisfying but didn’t necessarily exceed what you might expect from other high-end restaurants in the city.

PIGGY BANK SAVINGS

Winterlust is an expensive experience, and affordability is where it falls short for many diners. The high menu prices, combined with a mandatory minimum spend for dome reservations, make it one of the priciest dining experiences in Vancouver. While the luxurious ambiance and high-quality ingredients help justify the cost, it’s not a place most people can visit regularly.

Expect to pay a premium not just for the food, but also for the exclusivity and novelty of dining in a private dome. While it’s undoubtedly worth it for a special occasion or once-in-a-lifetime experience, the high price tag makes this venue less accessible for casual visits. For those on a budget, the cost may feel disproportionate, even considering the stunning atmosphere.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Winterlust at H Tasting Lounge is an experience that combines luxurious ambiance with elevated cuisine. The private domes create a magical setting that’s perfect for creating memories, whether it’s for a romantic date night or a festive gathering with close friends. The attention to detail in both the decor and the dishes elevates this dining event to a true winter wonderland experience.

However, the cost is a significant factor. While the food is delicious and the setting unmatched, the high prices make it a splurge that’s best reserved for special occasions. If you’re willing to pay for the ambiance and exclusivity, it’s a night you won’t forget. That said, it’s likely not the type of place you’ll visit regularly.
